AURORA, NY – On the road at Wells College the Penn State Abington women's soccer team smashed the Express with a 8-1 win on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Nittany Lions improve to 7-6-1 which is their best record since 2016, and in the conference Abington improves to 3-4 for the season.
Grace Burns lead a potent attack with two goals and an assist in the game and after her performance today, Burns leads the conference with 10 goals for the season.
It didn't take long for the Nittany Lions to get onto the scoreboard when
Sarah Gibbons netted her second goal of the season after 2 minutes and 24 seconds came off the clock. Abington continued their momentum when
Mary Kate Smith scored a goal that was assisted by
Julia Boccella in the 7
th minute of action. Boccella earned a goal of her own only four minutes later to push the Nittany Lions lead to 3-0 after 11 minutes of play. Abington would have to wait until the 43
rd minute when
Madison McDowell picked up her sixth goal of the season.
Leading 4-0 after the break, the Nittany Lions stayed hot when
Grace Burns put in her first of the game after a pass from McDowell in the 49
th minute. A minute later Boccella put in her fourth goal of the season to give the Nittany Lions a 6-0 advantage. Another goal from
Grace Burns came in the 53
rd minute, but a moment later Wells spoiled the shut out with a goal. On a set piece senior
Allyson Holtz ended the game with her goal in the 82
nd minute.
The Nittany Lions will look to continue their form when they host Immaculata on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
