ABINGTON, PA. – It was a team effort for the Penn State Abington women's soccer team in a dominate 7-0 display against Clarks Summit on Wednesday evening. The Nittany Lions improve to 6-3-1 for the season before they head into the heart of conference action.
Abington dominated from start to finish with 41 shots in the game and 24 of them were on goal. Defensively the Nittany Lions smothered the Defenders only allowing 4 shots all game that didn't test the keeper. The high powered attack for the Nittany Lions leads the United East in goals scored with 24 for the season.
In the 8
th minute of action
Grace Burns picked up her first goal of the game slotting it past the keeper. Abington doubled the lead off a corner kick when
Sarah Gibbons opened her account and put in a loose ball in the box after a corner kick. Later in the first half
Mary Kate Smith got back on the board and earned the third goal of the game after putting in low past the keeper.
After the break
Madison McDowell finally put the ball in the net after having a pair of goals in the first half were called back to give the Nittany Lions the 4-0 lead. Off another corner in the 69

Michaela Tommarello headed the corner into the net for her third goal of the season. A perfect outlet pass from
Maria Tunney fell to Smith again where she beat the keeper to give the Nittany Lions a 6-0 advantage. Just before time expired Burns weaved through the defense and beat the keeper just before time expired to cap a fantastic display for the Nittany Lions. The final goal of the game for Burns put her put her tied for first place as the United East Conference leading scorer with seven goals this season.
Abington will look to continue their momentum when they travel to Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
