SCRANTON, PA. – In the consolation game of the Electric City Tournament the Penn State Abington men's basketball team shut down the hosts Marywood University 55-43 on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improve to 4-3 for the season after the tournament.
For his performance during the weekend
Alex Podolski was named all-tournament team.
Leading the Nittany Lions in scoring was
Alex Salata III scoring 16 points while Podolski worked under the basket earning 12 rebounds.
In the first minutes of the game Salata III helped the Nittany Lions take an early 10-4 lead after he hit a pair of threes from downtown. The Pacers came back to tie the game with five minutes off the clock. Over the next ten minutes Abington pulled ahead with a 13-4 run powered by five Nittany Lions hitting the net. Abington kept momentum going right before the break when
Jomiloju Odumosu hit his jumper to give the Nittany Lions a 29-22 lead at the break.
Mohamed Mansaray put the Nittany Lions up by double-digits in the second half with his shot from behind the arc. Abington stifled the Pacers offense only allowing 31 percent from the floor and an anemic 15 percent from three. Abington worked to get to the line scoring 10 of their 26 points from the stripe. The Nittany Lions did well down the stretch to keep the Pacers off the board and with a minute to go held a comfortable 16 point lead.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action in December when they host Immaculata University on the 4
th at 2:00 p.m.
