ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team hosted Delaware Valley University but couldn't take down the Aggies in an 85-57 loss on Tuesday night. The Nittany Lions fall to 1-4 for the season.
Leading the Nittany Lions Cassie Tavormina knocked down 19 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Under the basket Camille Fleming scooped 11 rebounds and chipped in nine points for the Nittany Lions.
The Aggies came out hot in the first quarter and led the Nittany Lions 22-12 thanks to their 40 percent shooting from the floor.
In the second period Abington battled back and came within five points of the Aggies after a three-ball from Tavormina. Down 26-21 with five minutes left in the period, the Aggies went on a 15-6 run and capped it off with a shot from downtown to walk into the break with a commanding lead.
Delaware Valley dominated the third quarter shooting 60 percent from the floor and hit their shots at the line going 7-for-10 at the stripe. Abington went cold shooting the ball only hitting 26 percent from the floor and were completely shut out from behind the arc.
In the fourth quarter Abington outscored the Aggies, but it wasn't enough to overcome the huge deficit.
