Nittany Lions Fall to Cairn, 70-65

ABINGTON- Junior guard Alex Podolski put up a career high 18 points, but it wasn't enough for the Penn State Abington men's basketball team to overcome Carin on Monday night. After the loss the Nittany Lions fall to 1-1 for the season.

Podolski finished the night leading the Nittany Lions with his 18 points and added six boards and five assists to his game.  From the bench Alex Salata III added 15 points to Abington's total.

In the first half the Highlanders took an early 11-4 lead in the first minutes of action, but Darrion Harris changed momentum with his three ball from downtown. Carin still held a slim lead, but the Nittany Lions kept it close by hitting their shots from behind the arc. Consecutive three-balls for the Highlanders gave the visitors a nine-point advantage as they held a 30-21 lead going into the break.

A couple early buckets from Brian Randolph III kept the Nittany Lions in the game but still trailing from the Highlanders hot shooting. Cairn was hot shooting from the floor hitting 45 percent of their shots and pushed their lead to double digits. Abington continued to drive into the lane and get points from the paint to stay within striking distance of the Highlanders. Down the stretch Podolski took over and brought the Nittany Lions within three points but it wasn't enough to overcome Cairn.

Abington will look to rebound when they travel to the Gettysburg Tip-Off Tournament and face off against Hiram College on Friday night at 8:00 p.m.
