ABINGTON, PA. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team hosted Clarks Summit University but couldn't upset the defenders in a 100-68 loss on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Nittany Lions fall to 1-7 for the season.
Senior Wynter Bess led the scorers with 16 points and four assists while Angela Sanders pulled in 11 rebounds and scored 15 on the afternoon.
In the first quarter the Nittany Lions battled with the Defenders keeping the game close after a pair of three balls from Lacy MacLachlin. Tied 12-12, the defenders finished the period with a 7-2 run to take the lead at the first break.
In the second period the visitors couldn't miss, scoring 30 points on the Nittany Lions after shooting 63 percent from behind the arc. Abington struggled to keep pace with the Defenders only shooting 36 percent from the floor and could only go 1-of-5 from three. Clarks Summit went into the break with a commanding 49-26 lead over the Nittany Lions.
The Nittany Lions struggled in the third period allowing the Defenders to get to the line and score 10 points off free throws. Clarks Summit was also deadly from the floor with a 57 percent shooting average and the visitors pushed their lead to 40 points by the end of the period.
Abington woke up in the fourth period and outscored the Defenders 30-22 in the quarter, but they couldn't overcome the deficit in the loss.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action in the new year when they host Morrisville State on Friday January 7, at 7:00 p.m.
