Nittany Lions Fall to Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - The Penn State Abington women's basketball team faced off against Centenary University but couldn't top the Cyclones in a 78-64 loss on Wednesday night. After the loss the Nittany Lions fall to 1-6 for the season.

Sophomore Angela Sanders led the team scoring 23 points and scooped up 17 rebounds on the night.  Senior Wynter Bess was next for the Nittany Lions with 15 points, six assists and four rebounds.
In the first period the Nittany Lions fell behind early but battled back and tied the game with three minutes left to go in the period after tough points in the paint by Bess.  The Cyclones pulled ahead again with a 9-2 run, but Bess cut the deficit as time expired with her shot from downtown.

The Cyclones shooting from behind the arc put the hosts up by double digits in the first few minutes of the period.  Down 36-20 the Nittany Lions battled back and tightened up the defense. In the final seven minutes of the period the Cyclones could only muster two points while the Nittany Lions chipped away at the lead. Thanks to a big quarter from Cassie Tavormina the Nittany Lions were only down 38-31 at the break.

In the third quarter the Nittany Lions got into foul trouble early and the Cyclones pulled ahead again thanks to their shots at the free throw line. Sanders had the hot hand for the Nittany Lions scoring 10 points in the quarter and keeping them close with the cyclones. Again as time expired in the period Bess drained a deep three ball to bring the Nittany Lions within five, down 58-53 at the end of the period.

Abington battled with the Cyclones in the final period but couldn't close the gap and the Cyclones held on for their seventh win of the season.

The Nittany Lions return home to host Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
