MORRISVILLE, NY – In the hunt for a spot in the NEAC Tournament the Penn State Abington softball team picked up a crucial sweep of Morrisville State on Saturday afternoon. With the wins, Abington improves to 7-9 overall and 7-7 in the conference.

Megan Tomoney had a huge day at the plate going 4-of-7 with four runs scored and eight RBIs. On the mound
Laura VanHoeven completely shut down the Mustangs not allowing them to score a run thanks to an eye popping 12 strikeouts.

Tomoney started hot with a first inning double out to left field to drive in two runs. Later in the inning
Stephanie Andreoli took advantage of a passed ball to give the Nittany Lions a 3-0 advantage. Morrisville State answered by taking advantage of defensive miscues tying the game 3-3 in the first. In the second Tomoney followed her first inning with another two run double to left field. In the next at bat Andreoli drove her with a single to left field giving Abington a 6-3 lead. In the bottom half of the inning the Mustangs chipped away at the lead. In the third Abington kept the pressure on. Another RBI double from Vanhoven and a single from Andreoli added to the Nittany Lions total. In the fifth Abington put away the mustangs with another three runs to take down the Mustangs 12-4.

Again in game two Tomoney kicked off the scoring with an RBI in the first inning. The mustangs struggled to get runners out and filled up the bases for
Mary Kate Smith who drew a walk. Up 2-0 in the third
Jenna Gorman stepped up and smashed her pitch to left field to drive in another runner. Abington continued to put up runs in the fourth with another RBI from Tomoney. Another four runs in the sixth inning put the Mustangs away.

Abington will be on the road tomorrow to finish up the regular season at Wells College at 11:00 a.m.
