Nittany Lions Split NEAC Semifinal with Penn College

ABINGTON, Pa. – Hosting the first round of the NEAC Tournament the Penn State Abington baseball team won a huge 16-3 victory in game one, but couldn't punch their ticket to the final in a 10-6 loss in game two. Abington moves to 19-4 after today's games.

In game one, Abington and Penn College were deadlocked at 2-2 in the first few innings. In the bottom of the third the Nittany Lions pulled ahead.  With the bases loaded Jaden Himmelreich pulled an RBI walk, and one batter later, Paul Woodley drove in another two runs with his single out to center field.  Now up 4-2, the rattled pitcher put another runner across the plate with a balk. Abington added to their lead in the fifth inning when Sean Doherty drove a single out to right field and put two more runners past the plate.  Holding a commanding 9-2 lead in the 7th inning, the Nittany Lions shot down all hopes for Penn College with a huge seven run inning.

In game two the long ball killed the Nittany Lions again.  Penn College took an early 2-0 lead with an RBI double in the first inning. In the bottom half Stevie Stevenson led off with a solo homer to cut the lead.  Penn College added another two homers for themselves to push their lead to 5-1.  The Wildcats kept hitting and increased their lead to 8-2 after five innings of action. Abington started to rally with three consecutive runs highlighted by a home run from Bill Trimble, but Penn College added another homer of their own to break the Nittany Lions momentum.

Abington will host game three of the series tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. to see who will advance to the NEAC Finals against Penn State Harrisburg.
