ABINGTON, Pa. – After suffering a series split yesterday Penn State Abington bounced back against Penn College in a 12-4 win over the Wildcats to advance to the NEAC Title later in the week. Abington improved to 20-4 after the win.
Despite giving up 10 hits,
Ryan McCarty had a strong outing on the mound only giving up one run and striking out five batters. At the plate he added three runs off of three hits and an RBI in his four at bats.
Penn College struck first with a run in the second inning, but Abington responded in a big way. The Nittany Lions scored three runs off two singles from
Justin Fogel and
Zach Morales. Abington didn't let off the gas and continued to put runs across the plate. In the fifth Abington added four runs in part due to
Jaden Himmelreich taking his pitch out to right field for a pair of RBIs. Up 7-1 in the sixth inning, McCarty drove his pitch through the left side to put
Stevie Stevenson across the plate. Stevenson had his moment in the seventh inning when he blasted his 8
th career homer over the left field wall to make It 11-1. Penn College would rally late but the Nittany Lions were too far ahead for the Wildcats to make a difference.
Abington will advance to the NEAC Championship series when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg.
