Nittany Lions Draw with Bryn Athyn in Season Opener

BRYN ATHYN, PA – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team kicked off their season traveling to Bryn Athyn, and came away with a draw against the Lions on Friday night.

Three different Nittany Lions got on the score sheet with sophomore Grace Burns, freshman Gracie Terry and freshman Madison McDowell all punching in their first collegiate goals of their career.

Bryn Athyn struck first in the second minute putting the Nittany Lions down a goal early. Abington battled through the early deficit and peppered the goal to try and equalize. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 31st minute when Terry netted the first goal of the game for the Nittany Lions. The Nittany Lions stole momentum moments later and Abington went up in the 34th minute after Burns fired her shot home.

In the second half Abington held off the hosts after they pressured the net and against the run of play Abington pushed their lead to 3-1 with a goal from McDowell. Bryn Athyn turned up the pressure and scored two goals in the final minutes of the game to force overtime. In overtime neither team could break the deadlock with the game ending in a draw.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action for their home opener against Cairn University on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
