Abington Falls to Albright, 3-1

Reading, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference contest on the road against Albright College by the score of 3-1 on Monday night at the Bollman Center.

How It Happened
 
* Abington took a close first opening set by the score of 25-22.  Trailing 6-5, the Nittany Lions took advantage of four straight miscues by Albright to lead 9-6.  From there Abington never relinquished the lead and led by as many as four points at 15-11 after back-to-back kills from senior Jenny McAnaney and freshman Alyssa Flickinger.  Albright came within a couple of points down the stretch but a kill by McAnaney closed the set.
 
* In the second set Albright scored the first four points and jumped out to a 6-2 lead.  Abington would go on to tie the set at 9-9 and take its first lead of the set at 11-10.  Albright would regain the lead and with an 18-16 advantage, the Lions scored seven of the next eight points to take the set 25-17 to tie the match.
 
* Albright used an 8-1 run with the third set tied at 8-8 to take control with a 16-9 advantage.  Abington made it a six-point game at 22-16 after a kill by junior Taylor LaPage but Albright followed with the final three points of the set to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.
 
* Abington came out firing in the fourth set with a 7-2 run.  Albright slowly chipped away at the lead coming within two points at 13-11.  The Nittany Lions responded with three straight points to increase their lead back to five points at 16-11.  Later in the set with Abington ahead 18-15, Albright turned the momentum with seven straight points to grab a 22-18 lead.  After a point by Abington, the home team followed with the final three points to take the set, 25-19.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* McAnaney led the Nittany Lions with 10 kills to go along with three total blocks (1BS/2BA).
 
* Freshman Jackie Lewis finished with a match-high 18 digs.
 
* Freshman Laine Kulpinski totaled a team-high 15 assists to go along with three aces and seven digs.
 
* Flickinger and junior Emma de Mey each totaled six kills.  de Mey also had five digs.
 
* For Albright, Rachel Etim totaled a match-high 16 kills.  Shelby Cheuvront led the team with 17 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fifth meeting between Abington and Albright since the start of the 2014 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-4 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 as the Nittany Lions open United East Conference action.  Abington will take part in a tri-match hosted by Wells College.  The Nittany Lions will face the Express at 12 p.m. and then go up against Lancaster Bible College at 2 p.m.
