Abington Shutouts Cairn in Non-Conference Match

Langhorne, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team picked up its second straight shutout victory of the fall after defeating Cairn University, 9-0, in a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon at the McCurdy Tennis Facility.

How It Happened
 
* In first doubles the team of sophomore Andrew Brown and junior Josh Kurek scored eight unanswered points after falling behind 3-0 to earn the point with an 8-3 victory.
 
* Junior Neil Guarino and sophomore Kyle Elliott had a similar outcome in second doubles.  After trailing 2-0 early in the match, Guarino and Elliott rallied with eight straight points to win 8-2.  The Nittany Lions also picked up the point at third doubles by default. 
 
*   In singles action Brown defeated Cairn's Michael Wilson, 8-4, at number one singles.
 
* Kurek was victorious at second singles with an 8-3 win against Jake Edwards.
 
* Freshman Tim Belotserkovsky also had an 8-3 singes victory at number three against Joel Cassel.
 
* Freshman Adrian Schembri registered his first collegiate victory at fourth singles against Joel Kim.  With the match tied 1-1, Schembri scored seven straight points for the 8-1 win.
 
* Freshman Nick Talarico also secured his first career singles win as he defeated Jacob Gossel, 8-2, in the fifth position.

* Abington took the point in sixth singles by default to round out the scoring.
 
Next Up
Abington has concluded the fall portion of its schedule and will resume play later this spring.  The Nittany Lions return to action on Saturday, March 4 with a home match against Albright College.
