Abington Falls to Albright to Open Spring Season

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Albright College by the score of 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts.  The setback marked the Nittany Lions first blemish on the season.

How It Happened
 
* Abington picked up one point in doubles action with the duo of junior Josh Kurek and freshman Tim Belotserkovsky coming away with an 8-4 triumph at first doubles over Arpit Gainder and Clay Lewandowski. 
 
* At third singles, freshman Nick Talarico rallied to defeat Albright's Kobe Serpa, 8-7, after winning the tiebreaker at 10-8.  Talarico trailed 6-3 and 7-5 in the set and then at 7-6 faced two match points but won both to force the tiebreaker.  In the tiebreaker, Talarico led 6-1, but Serpa came back to take a 7-6 and 8-7 lead in the tiebreak.  Talarico was able to hold off a pair of match points once again by Serpa to take the tiebreak, 10-8.
 
* Freshman Alex Vylkov earned his first collegiate victory as he defeated Hugh Crawford, 8-4, at sixth singles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 10th meeting between Abington and Albright since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 5-5 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, March 9 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Mary Baldwin University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
