Abington Falls Short at St. Mary’s; Sheldon Records 100th Save

St. Mary's City, Md. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) contest at regionally ranked St. Mary's College by the score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.  In the game, junior goalkeeper Matt Sheldon recorded his 100th career save in net.

How It Happened
 
* Abington struck first thanks to a score by sophomore Sean Horvay in the 20th minute.  Horvay's first career goal gave Abington the early 1-0 lead. 
 
* St. Mary's tied the game in the 32nd minute when Zack Glime scored his fifth goal of the game in the 32nd minute.  Just over a minute later Glime connected again with his second goal of the game and sixth of the year to give the Seahawks a 2-1 lead.
 
* The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Seahawks until a team goal increased the lead to 3-1 in the 81st minute.
 
* Abington was limited to just one shot in the second half which came in the 58th minute off the foot of sophomore Mike Thomas.  A stop by the Seahawks keeper preserved the one goal lead.

* Sheldon made five saves in the game for the Nittany Lions and in the process surpassed 100 saves in his career.  He is the fourth player in program history to record 100-plus career saves and currently has 104 good enough for fourth all-time.  Sheldon's five saves also gave him 53 on the season setting a new career-high. 
 
* Horvay's first half goal marked the first of his career.
 
* St. Mary's outshot Abington, 16-8 for the game, including 6-1 in the second half.  The Seahawks totaled nine corner kicks in the game to just two by the Nittany Lions.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fourth meeting between Abington and St. Mary's since the 2015 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-4-0 versus the Seahawks in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 11 as the Nittany Lions host Swarthmore College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Memorial Field.
