Vazquez, Sanders Each Record Double-Doubles in Victory over Ravens

Abington, Pa. – Senior Isabella Vazquez and junior Angela Sanders each recorded double-doubles as the Penn State Abington women's basketball team defeated visiting Rosemont College, 79-67, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at the Athletic Building.  The win marked the first for first-year head coach Megan Fox at Abington.
 
Vazquez led all scorers with 30 points while grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.  Sanders finished with a season-high 24 points and shared the game lead with 11 boards as well.
 
How It Happened
 
* Abington led nearly the entire game except for a short period when the team trailed 3-2 after Rosemont knocked down a three-point on its first possession.  From there, the Nittany Lions slowly began increasing their lead and grabbed their first double-digit lead at the 3:51 mark of the first quarter.  A three-pointer by senior Cassie Tavormina made the score 20-8.  The Nittany Lions would go on to lead 27-14 by quarters end.
 
* Abington maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second quarter and held a 22-point advantage at 2:29. Tavormina hit a jumper to make the score 38-16. The Nittany Lions finished the half with a 40-21 lead heading into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* Abington's lead swelled to as many as 30 points in the third quarter after a layup basket by junior Kankoun Sylla made the score 58-28 with just over three minutes to play in the quarter.  Rosemont closed out the quarter with an 11-1 run to cut the deficit down to 59-39 heading into the final quarter.
 
* In the fourth quarter the Ravens came within single digits in the final minute at 75-66.  Vazquez helped seal the victory for the Nittany Lions by converting 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Vazquez's 30 points set a new career-high as she shot 7-of-9 from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 from deep range.  She also connected on 14-of-16 free throw attempts.  Her 11 rebounds also marked a career-high.
 
* Sanders set season-highs with 24 points and 11 rebounds to register her 12th career double-double.  She also dished out three assists and had five steals on defense tying her career-high.
 
* Tavormina also finished in double-figures as she finished with 14 points to go along with four rebounds.
 
* Sylla totaled a season-high 10 rebounds, while junior Camille Fleming tied her season-high with seven boards.
 
* As a team the Nittany Lions made a season-high six three-points (6-10) and shot a season-best 21-of-31 from the free throw line.  Defensively, Abington blocked a season-high seven shots and registered a season-best 11 steals.
 
* For Rosemont, Rogers finished with a team-high 23 points, while Angel Ricks recorded a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Rosemont since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-2 versus the Ravens after winning the last two match ups.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Monday, Nov. 21 as the Nittany Lions travel to Delaware Valley University for a non-conference contest against the Aggies.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
