Abington Defeats Clarks Summit, 83-66

Clarks Summit, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team picked up an 83-66 victory on the road against Clarks Summit University in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Huckaby Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Abington led from beginning to end and never trailed in the game.  The Nittany Lions jumped out to a quick 5-0 run and held a double-digit lead by the 13:52 mark of the opening half.  Sophomore Kolby Miller converted a pair of free throws to give Abington an 18-7 lead. 
 
* The Nittany Lions led by as many as 16 points in the first half.  Senior Alex Salata III finished a three-point play with a free throw to make the score 31-15 with 5:50 to play until halftime. 
 
* Clarks Summit followed with an 11-0 run to cut the deficit down to single digits at 31-26.  However, a layup basket and a three-pointer by junior Darrion Harris in Abington's final two possessions of the half gave the Nittany Lions a double-digit lead heading into halftime at 36-26.
 
* In the second half Abington held its biggest lead of the game midway through the way when the Nittany Lions built an 18-point advantage.  Senior Isaac Kennon hit a jumper to make the score 61-43 at the 9:18 mark.
 
* Clarks Summit would make another run and cut the double-digit lead down to single digits as low as seven points following a 15-4 run.  The Defenders' Ashton West capped the run with a layup basket that made it a 65-58 game with 5:41 to play.
 
* The single digit advantage didn't last long as Abington quickly increased its lead back to double digits.  The Nittany Lions closed the game out with an 18-8 run over the final five minutes.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Harris finished with a game-high 24 points to record his third straight 20-plus point performance.  He also finished with five rebounds and three steals.
 
* Salata recorded a season-high 20 points (6-11 FG) while setting a career-high with seven assists.
 
* Kennon shot 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-5 from deep range to finish with 15 points.
 
* Senior Brian Randolph III also scored in double-figures as he added 10 points to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. 
 
* Miller and junior Jake Schalki each totaled seven points.
 
* As a team, Abington shots a season-best 91.3-percent from the free throw line connecting on 21-of-23 attempts. 
 
* For Clarks Summit, West scored a team-high 22 points, while Hunter Plantz finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the third meeting between Abington and Clarks Summit since the start of the 2019-20 season. The Nittany Lions are now 3-0 versus the Defenders in the all-time series.

Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as the Nittany Lions return home to host Arcadia University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Athletic Building.
