Late Run Lifts Abington Past Mighty Macs, 61-55

Immaculata, Pa. –  The Penn State Abington men's basketball closed out the final 5:42 of the game on a 19-9 run to come away with a 61-55 road victory against Immaculata University in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Alumnae Hall.  The win marked the Nittany Lions third straight victory.

How It Happened
 
* Senior Alex Podolski split a pair of free throws to make the score 46-43 at the 5:42 mark of the second half.  On the team's next possession, senior Alex Salata III drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 46-46.  After a turnover by the Mighty Macs, the Nittany Lions capitalized on the miscue as Podolski knocked down a three to give Abington a 49-46 advantage with 4:15 to play.
 
* Abington, holding its first lead since the 14:18 mark of the first half (9-8), did not relinquish the lead back to the Mighty Macs the rest of the way. The Nittany Lions made it a two possession game after Podolski registered a three-point play capped with a free throw to increase the lead to 54-48 with 2:41 left on the clock.
 
* The Nittany Lions pushed their lead to as many as eight points in the final minute after a three-point play by Salata made the score 61-53 with :15 seconds remaining. 
 
* Immaculata led by as many as nine points holding the game's largest lead in a low scoring first half.  The Mighty Macs had a 22-13 advantage at the 4:38 mark of the opening half after a Tyler Tillery bucket.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Three players finished in double-figures for the Nittany Lions.  Podolski and Salata each finished with a team-high 15 points.  Senior Brian Randolph III added 13 points.
 
* Junior Jake Schalki finished the night with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
* Free throws were a factor in the game as Abington converted 21-of-25 attempts, while Immaculata only made 10-of-17 from the line.
 
* For Immaculata, Steven Dao finished with a game-high 19 points (8-9 FG) to go along with six rebounds, while Tillery added 12 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the sixth meeting between Abington and Immaculata since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 3-3 versus the Mighty Macs in the all-time series after winning the last three match ups.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday, Dec. 2 as the Nittany Lions open United East Conference play by hosting Morrisville State College.  Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Abington Athletic Building.
