Nittany Lion Women Lose At Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Penn College posted an 84-63 home victory over Penn State Abington in Saturday's United East Conference women's basketball battle.

The Nittany Lions (7-14, 6-7) kept it close with the Wildcats, leading for the majority of the first quarter. A pair of layups from Safara McIntyre helped to put Penn State Abington up by five with just four minutes remaining in the first. Penn took back the lead, but Lacy MacLachlin knocked down a three-pointer to put the Nittany Lions back up, 12-11.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Kayleigh Miller helped the Wildcats (7-14, 6-8) begin a 14-0 run to start the second quarter, and they never looked back. They led by 10 at the break and outscored Penn State Abington, 29-15, in the third.

Angela Sanders took control on both sides of the ball, leading both teams in scoring and rebounds with 27 points and 14 boards. Camille Fleming was another big presence under the basket, having 12 rebounds of her own. MacLachlin led Penn State Abington from beyond the arc, making four three-pointers on the day. Wynter Bess dished out four assists for the Nittany Lions while being a dominant presence on the perimeter, holding Penn College to 30% from beyond the arc in the first half.

The Wildcats were led by Miller and Cassi Kuhns, who combined for 39 points on 52% shooting. Eighteen of Miller's 20 points came from deep.

Penn State Abington will be back in action on Tuesday night, February 15 (7 p.m.) when it hosts rival Penn State Harrisburg for Senior Night and a White Out. Bess and MacLachlin will be recognized before the game as the team's lone seniors.
