AUBURNDALE, FL -- A back and forth contest saw Penn State Abington drop a 9-7 decision to undereated Loras College on Wednesday.
Loras, which received votes in the latest top 25 poll, improved to 8-0 overall while the Nittany Lions fell to 5-4.
The Duhawks took an early 3-0 lead when Penn State Abington put two on the board in the fourth with sacrifice flies by
Josh Baar and Jordan Himmelreich. Loras answered with two in the bottom of the inning, but the Nittany Lions tied it with three in the fifth for a 5-5 score. All three runs came off the bat of
Tim Petrucelli has he drilled a shot over the right field fence.
Penn State Abington took its first lead of the game in the sixth inning on an RBI single by
Chase Swain. However, the Duhawks responded with three in their half of the inning, including a two-run single by Chris Costantimo. A sacrifice fly by Himmelreich in the seventh made it an 8-7 game and Loras responded again with a run for a 9-7 advantage and that became the final.
Petrucelli finish 2-for-2 with the three-run homer. Swain and
Ryan McCarty each went 3-for-5 while Himmelreich was 1-for-1 with two RBIs on the two sacrifice flies.
