MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The Penn State Abington softball team opened it 2022 season by splitting a pair of games on its Spring Break trip. The Nittany Lions dropped an 8-2 decision to Centenary University before bouncing back with a 16-11 triumph over Anna Marie College.
In the Centenary game,
Drew Liss managed the lone hit for Penn State Abington. Her single moved
Megan Tomoney up to third as Tomoney had walked and advanced to second on a stolen base. A passed ball allowed Tomoney to score and Liss eventually crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by
Jenna Gorman.
Elyssa Bohr took the loss despite allowing just three earned runs. She fanned four.
In the night cap, the Nittany Lions scored four times in the first inning and added seven more in the fourth and three in the fifth. They then plated single runs in the sixth and seventh to account for their 16 runs.
Mary Kate Smith scored three times from her leadoff position while Liss was 2-for4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Grace Renninger also had two runs scored and three RBIs while going 3-for-5.
Abbi Long added three hits and
Callie Chambers knocked in three runs in the win.Â
