Abington Defeats Rosemont in Final Regular Season Match

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team wrapped up the 2021-22 regular season with a 7-2 triumph over visiting Rosemont College in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts.  The Nittany Lions will now head into the postseason where they'll face top-seeded St. Mary's College in the semifinals of the United East Conference (UEC) Tournament on Friday evening starting at 6 p.m. at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pa.

How It Happened
 
* Abington opened the match with a 3-0 lead after taking all three doubles competitions.  At first doubles, senior Michelle Ly and sophomore Emina Mulaosmanovic made quick work of their competition winning 8-0.  The duo of sophomore Tinatin Sadzaglishvili and freshman Isabella Ferreira won their second doubles match, 8-5, while sophomores Melissa Flood and Taylor LaPage came away with an 8-2 victory at third doubles.
 
* In singles action Ly and Sadzaglishvili each recorded shutout victories in their respective matches.  Ly defeated Mia Rafter in first singles, while Sadzaglishvili picked up the win at second singles against Evora Kaiwi.
 
* Mulaosmanovic earned the point for Abington at third singles as she defeated Makaela Frey, 6-2, 6-2.
 
* Flood took the win at fifth singles over Gabby Holmes by winning 6-2 and 6-0.
 
* LaPage rallied to tie her competition at sixth singles.  After dropping the first set, 6-2, LaPage bounced back to tie the set with a set two victory at 7-5.  However, Rosemont's Elise was able to win the super tie-break 10-7 for the point for the Ravens.
 
* Rosemont also earned a point at fourth singles with Marissa Lotierzo winning 6-4, 6-1.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fifth meeting between Abington and Rosemont since the 2011-12 season and the first since 2015-16.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-1 versus the Ravens in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday as the Nittany Lions compete in the United East Tournament.  The Nittany Lions face St. Mary's in the semifinals starting at 6 p.m. at the Hershey Racquet Club.
