Abington Extends Win Streak to Five; Defeats Bryn Mawr, 3-1

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team recorded its fifth straight victory after defeating visiting Bryn Mawr College, 3-1, in a non-conference contest on Friday night.

How It Happened
 
* Abington jumped out to a 12-2 run in the opening set and never looked back.  The Nittany Lions made quick work of the Owls leading by as many as 17 points at 21-4.  Senior Jenny McAnaney recorded five of the team's 10 kills in the set.
 
* In the second set, Bryn Mawr tied the match with a 25-21 set win.  Trailing 4-3, the Owls went on a 9-0 run to lead 12-4 and never relinquished the lead.  Bryn Mawr took advantage of 11 errors in the set by the Nittany Lions.
 
* Abington bounced back and took the third set by double-digits at 25-13.  The Nittany Lions tallied off six straight points to take a 9-2 advantage early in the set.  The team never allowed the Owls to come within five points of the lead in the set.  Junior Emma de Mey and McAnaney each had four kills in the set.
 
* The Nittany Lions took the match with a late run in the fourth set.  Trailing 11-8, Abington went on a 10-0 run to take control of the set at 18-11.  During the run de Mey recorded five kills, including a four straight.  Freshman Laine Kulpinski accounted for five of the points with service aces as she capped the run with four straight.  Abington took the set, 25-18.

* McAnaney finished the night with a match-high 17 kills; one shy of her season-high.  She also totaled a season-high nine digs.
 
* de Mey also totaled double-digit kills as she set a season-high with 13.
 
* Kulpinski led the match with 23 assists; one shy of her season-high.  She also recorded a match-best 10 aces coming within one ace of the program's single-match record of 11.  Kulpinski totaled 10 digs; one shy of her season-high.
 
* For the third straight match, freshman Jackie Lewis set a season-high in digs as she finished with a match-high 23. 
 
* Freshman Brooke Beach totaled five kills and six digs, while fellow freshman Alyssa Flickinger added four kills and a team-high two block assists.
 
* For Bryn Mawr, Micah Sheppard led the team with nine kills to go along with 15 digs.  Abigail Koppisch led the team with 18 digs.
 
Tops in the Nation
Abington entered tonight averaging 5.25 aces per set which ranks top among the national leaders in Division III.  With 16 more aces tonight, the Nittany Lions have totaled 100 on the year in six matches.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the sixth meeting between Abington and Bryn Mawr since the start of the 2013 season.  The Nittany Lions and Owls are tied 3-3 in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action tomorrow as the Nittany Lions host Clarks Summit University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 1 p.m.
