Abington Rolls past Clarks Summit; Extends Win Streak to Six

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team picked up its sixth straight victory after defeating Clarks Summit University, 3-0, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
 
* An 11-1 run by Abington to open the match set the tone early on for the Nittany Lions.  Leading 11-2 in the set, the Nittany Lions ripped off 10 straight points before taking the set, 25-4.  Abington totaled 10 kills in the opening set as well as seven aces.
 
* In the second set, a run early on by the Nittany Lions propelled the team to a 25-13 victory.  Leading 5-4, Abington used a 7-0 run to increase its lead to 12-4 and take control of the set.  Abington mounted a double-digit lead at 19-9 after freshman Laine Kulpinski capped a mini 4-0 run with an ace. 
 
* Abington trailed for the first time in the match at 2-1, but five straight points by the Nittany Lions gave the home squad a 6-2 advantage.  Abington never relinquished the lead and would go on to lead by double-digits during a late run.  The Nittany Lions scored the final four points of the set for a 25-9 victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* One night after coming within one ace of the program record with 10 aces, Kulpinski added another eight aces this afternoon to lead the team.  She also registered 15 assists and had three digs on defense.
 
* Senior Jenny McAnaney recorded a match-high five kills; all coming in the opening set.
 
* Freshman Brianna Brozo and sophomore Amanda Swan-Geiger each tallied four kills.
 
* Sophomore Grace Petersen led the team with a season-high five digs.
 
* For Clarks Summit, Ella Simmons led the team with three kills, while Haley Bush and Melanie Stabler each had a team-high five digs.
 
All-Time Results
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Clarks Summit since 2015.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-0 versus the Defenders in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 as the Nittany Lions host Division II Cheyney University in a non-conference contest. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
