Abington Falls to Harrisburg in Conference Opener

Middletown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team dropped its United East Conference (UEC) opener at Penn State Harrisburg by the score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Harrisburg Turf Field.

How It Happened
 
* Harrisburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two early goals in the first half.  Harrisburg's first goal came in the 12th minute off the foot of Marc Rodgers.  Less than four minutes later, Harrisburg doubled its lead after a goal from Luke Myers in the 15th minute.
 
* Abington got on the board in the 21st minute when sophomore Arsene Bado connected on his third goal of the season to make the score 2-1.
 
* Abington nearly tied the game in the final minutes before halftime.  However, a shot by sophomore Louie Lare was stopped by Harrisburg's keeper, Richard Lockard.
 
* The score remained 2-1 until the 86th minute when Harrisburg tacked on an insurance goal by Daniel Fombu.
 
Inside the Box Score

* Junior goalkeeper Matt Sheldon made three saves in net for Abington.
 
* Bado, who now has three goals on the season, led the team with two shots; both on-goal.
 
* Harrisburg edged Abington in shots by an 8-5 margin for the game and held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the eighth meeting between Abington and Harrisburg since the start of the 2011 season.  Abington is now 3-5-0 versus Harrisburg in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Montclair State University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
