Abington Shutouts Elizabethtown in Fall Opener, 9-0

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2022-23 season with a 9-0 triumph over Elizabethtown College in non-conference action on Saturday at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.

How It Happened
 
* Abington opened the match with three victories in doubles to take a 3-0 lead entering singles.  The Nittany Lions took first singles by the score of 8-7 after Andrew Brown and Josh Kurek won the tie-break, 7-5.
 
* In second doubles, Neil Guarino and Tim Belotserkovsky rallied from a 5-2 deficit and later trailed 6-5 before taking the competition, 8-6.  Abington earned the point at third doubles by default.
 
* In singles action, Brown rallied back after dropping the first set to Max Lauver, 6-3.  Brown picked up the win in the second set, 7-5, after battling back from a 3-0 hole and a 5-2 deficit.  He won the third set tie-break, 11-9, for the victory.
 
* Kurek cruised to victory in second singles defeating Sam Langer, 6-1, 6-1.  Belotserkovsky also picked up a straight sets victory at third singles as he defeated Luke Paulson with ease, 6-2, 6-2.
 
* In fourth singles, Guarino came away with a 6-4 victory in the first set against Isaac Reichenbach.  He secured the point with a 6-1 win in the second set.
 
* Kyle Elliott earned the point at fifth singles with a straight sets victory of his own.  He defeated Ethan Zelinsky, 6-2, 6-4.  Abington received the final point at sixth singles by default.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and Elizabethtown. 
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Cairn University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
