Lucky Seven! Abington Wins 7th Straight Match with Victory Over Cheyney

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team's season-long winning streak has hit seven straight after the Nittany Lions made quick work of Cheyney University with a 3-0 triumph on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
 
* Abington opened the first set on a 5-0 run and closed it out with 10 straight points to take the set, 24-4.  Freshman Sara Schrader registered six straight aces during the final run before freshman Brooke Beach closed it out with a kill.  Abington recorded 10 of its 24 aces in the match in the first set.
 
* Cheyney opened the second set with a kill but Abington followed with seven straight points and never looked back.  The Nittany Lions went up double-digits at 18-8 after Beach recorded a point off a service ace.  Cheyney cut the lead down to single digits with two straight points but Abington went on to score seven of the next eight points to take the set, 25-11.
 
* In the third set, Abington led 9-7 early and went on to increase its lead to double-figures with a 10-2 surge.  Freshman Maddie Gajewski recorded back-to-back aces before a bad set by the Wolves made the score 19-9.  The Nittany Lions capped the scoring with a kill from freshman Morgan Schaefer for a 25-13 win in the set.

* Abington, the nation's top team in aces per set at 5.30, added another 24 aces to its season total.  It's the second most assists the team has recorded in a match this season. 
 
* Schrader was responsible for six of the team's aces as she set a season-high.
 
* Beach led the match with a season-high six kills, while senior Jenny McAnaney totaled five kills.  Freshman Alyssa Flickinger added four kills.
 
* Sophomore Amanda Geiger-Swan led the team with a season-high six digs to go along with a pair of aces on the serve.
 
* Freshman Laine Kulpinski finished with a match-high 13 assists and had four digs, while freshman Haley Koch had six assists and three digs.
 
* For Cheyney, Kennedy Jones led the team with five kills, while Jireh Kelly finished the night with a match-high 11 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked just the second meeting between Abington and Cheyney and the first since the 2012 season.  The Nittany Lions are 2-0 versus the Wolves in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action on Monday, Sept. 26 as the Nittany Lions host Rosemont College in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
