Langhorne, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest on the road against Cairn University by the score of 2-1 on Monday afternoon at the Stillman Athletic Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Two first half goals by the Highlanders turned out to be the difference in the game.  Cairn scored the game's first goal in the 21st minute when Em Kuansongtham connected on her fourth goal of the season.  Later in the half, Julia Bruestle doubled the lead with a score in the 38th minute.
 
* Abington out-shot its opponent 11-5 in the first half and put 10 of its shots on-goal but was unable to get one by goalkeeper, Isabelle Lazor, who finished the half with 10 saves.
 
* The Nittany Lions would finally get one by Lazor late in the second half when sophomore Madison McDowell drove in her fifth goal of the season to make the score 2-1 in the 76th minute. 
 
* Abington had two chances to tie the game in the final five minutes but on-target shots by junior Grace Burns in the 86th minute and freshman Emma Frasca in the 90th minute were stopped by Lazor.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Abington totaled 20 shots with 16 on-goal which both marked second most totals by the team this season. The Nittany Lions also recorded seven corner kick attempts; second most on the season as well.
 
* Senior Maria Tunney and freshman Rachel Wilfrid each made a save in net for the Nittany Lions as both split time in net.
 
* McDowell's second half goal marked her fifth of the season which ranks second among the United East leaders trailing only teammate, Burns, who leads the conference with eight.
 
* For Cairn, Lazor finished the game with 15 saves in net. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Abington and Cairn since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 4-2-1 against the Highlanders in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 as the Nittany Lions host Delaware Valley University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Memorial Field.
