Abington Falls to Delaware Valley, 4-1

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Delaware Valley University by the score of 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field.

How It Happened
 
* Abington jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Madison McDowell scored off a free kick after a DelVal foul just outside the box.  McDowell's sixth goal of the season came in the fifth minute of action.
 
* The Nittany Lions held the advantage until the 32nd minute when the Aggies tied the game at 1-1.  Jess Williamson scored after her initial shot was saved by Abington's keeper, Maria Tunney.  However, Williamson was able to control the rebounded ball as her second attempt found the back of the net.
 
* Williamson gave DelVal the lead with less than two minutes to play in the first half with her second goal of the opening half. 
 
* Leading 2-1 early on the in the second half, the Aggies found the back of the net once more.  Kara Kramer made the score 3-1 after her corner kick attempt slipped by a crowded box into the net.  Less than a minute later the Aggies tacked on another score by Sydney Dispoto to increase the lead to 4-1.

* The goal by McDowell marker her sixth of the season; one shy of her career-high set last year in her rookie season. 
 
* Senior goalkeeper Maria Tunney made five saves in net for the Nittany Lions in the first half.  She now has 90 saves in her Abington career and 134 in her collegiate career.
 
* Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Wilfrid played the second half and finished with a pair of saves.
 
* Freshman Emma Frasca led the team with four shots, while McDowell totaled three. 
 
* For the Aggies, Williamson totaled five points off two goals and one assist.  Goalkeepers Olivia Sherwood and Viola Anderson each split time in net as both made two saves each.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Delaware Valley since the start of the 2017 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-3-0 versus the Aggies in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 as the Nittany Lions resume conference play and head to Morrisville State College.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
