Gibbons Scores Game-Winner as Abington Tops Mustangs, 2-1

Morrisville, N.Y. – Sophomore Sarah Gibbons scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute to help lift the Penn State Abington women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Morrisville State University in United East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Drake Field.

How It Happened
 
* Gibbons connected on what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute breaking a 1-1 tie.  Fellow sophomore Madison McDowell assisted on the score.
 
* Abington tied the game in the 37th minute when freshman Emma Frasca scored her third goal of the season.  McDowell set up the game-tying score with her first of two assists on the day.
 
* Morrisville scored the game's first goal as the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute after Jozlyn Dolan scored the team's lone goal.

* McDowell's two assists marked her first multi assist game of her career.
 
* Gibbon's second half goal was her first game-winning goal of her career as well as set a career-high in goals scored in a season.
 
* Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Wilfrid made four saves in the game as she earned her first collegiate win. 
 
* Abington outshot the Mustangs by a 22-12 margin, including 11-5 with shots on-goal.  The Nittany Lions also held an edge on corner kicks, 5-3.
 
* For the Mustangs, goalkeeper Melanie Rott totaled nine saves.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 10th meeting between Abington and Morrisville since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 8-1-1 versus the Mustangs in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Stevenson University in a non-conference contest of the season.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
