Nittany Lions Finish Tied with Rutgers-Camden

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team wrapped up a non-conference contest with Rutgers University-Camden in a 1-1 tie on Monday afternoon at Memorial Field.

How it Happened
 
* It didn't take long for the Nittany Lions to light up the scoreboard as Abington scored the game's first goal just over seven minutes into the action.  A free kick by JT Stone into the box found Eljo Agolli who quickly turned it to Mike Thomas for the point-blank shot and goal. 
 
* Later in the half Rutgers-Camden scored the equalizing goal as Tommy Monaghan converted a penalty kick goal in the 31st minute.
 
* Over the next 60-plus minutes of game action neither team was able to break the tie with a go-ahead goal as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior goalkeeper Matt Sheldon was a big part in preserving the tie as he registered five saves in net, including four in the second half.  Sheldon's fifth and final save came in the final minute as he turned away a shot with :52 seconds left on the clock.
 
* Thomas' first half goal marked his second of the season, while Agolli tied his career-high with his fourth assist of the season.  Stone, who also was credited with an assist on the score, tallied his first collegiate assist. 
 
* Rutgers-Camden's Jordan Brickner made two saves in net.  The Scarlet Raptors held a slight 11-8 margin on shots and registered eight corner kicks in the game. 
 
All-Time Results
Today marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Rutgers-Camden since the start of the 2017 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-3-1 versus the Scarlet Raptors in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Wilson College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
