How It Happened

* Abington jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set and then increased its lead to double-digits at 16-5 after a service ace by senior Jenny McAnaney capped a 4-0 run.  Misericordia slowly chipped away at the lead and a late 4-0 run by the Cougars made the score 23-21.  However, a service error by the Cougars followed by an ace by freshman Jackie Lewis sealed the opening set victory.

* In the second set, Misericordia opened with a 10-0 run and never looked back.  Abington was able to cut the deficit down to seven points at 13-6, but that was as close as the Nittany Lions would get in the set.  The Cougars increased their lead back to double-figures and went on to take the set, 25-13, to tie the match.

* Abington trailed the third set 11-4 and rallied all the way back to tie the set at 14-14.  With the Cougars ahead 17-15, the Nittany Lions scored three straight points to grab their first lead of the set at 18-17. Misericordia followed with a 3-0 run to regain the lead at 20-18 before Abington responded with a 4-0 run to steal the lead right back at 22-20.  With the Nittany Lions ahead 24-22, Meghan Peters tied the set with a kill followed by an ace.  Another kill by the Cougars and an ace by Peters sealed the set at 26-24.

* A late run in the fourth set by Misericordia propelled the Cougars to a 25-18 victory to clinch the match. Abington cut the lead to 16-15 before the Cougars went on a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 21-15.  Misericordia totaled a match-high 18 kills in the fourth set.
