Abington Outpowers Bryn Athyn, 3-0

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team tallied a season-high 28 kills and 27 service aces on its way to a 3-0 victory over visiting Bryn Athyn College in a non-conference contest on Thursday night inside the Abington Athletic Building.

How it Happened
 
* After allowing a season-low four kills in their previous match against the University of Valley Forge, the Nittany Lions' defense limited the Bryn Athyn offense to just three kills in the match.
 
* In the first set Abington jumped out to a 9-2 run and never looked back.  The Nittany Lions led by as many as 14 points at 24-10.  Junior Emma de Mey recorded five service aces in the set.
 
* Leading 13-4 in the second set, Abington closed out the set with 12 straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Thirteen of the team's 25 points in the set came from service aces.  Freshman Jackie Lewis had eight aces in the set, including a stretch of four straight.
 
* In the third set Abington once again came out firing as the Nittany Lions opened with a 16-1 run, which including a stretch of 11 straight points.  Abington went on to take the third set, 25-4.

* Abington recorded a season-high 28 kills to go along with a season-best .423 attack percentage.  The team totaled 52 attempts and made a season-low six errors. 
 
* Twelve different players registered kills in the match as Jenny McAnaney, Amanda Swan-Geiger and de Mey each totaled four kills each to lead the team. 
 
* Lewis finished the match with nine aces; two shy of the program record.
 
* Freshman Laine Kulpinski led the team with 19 assists to go along with three digs.
 
* Freshman Morgan Schaefer recorded a team-high six digs.
 
* McAnaney finished the night with four aces, while de Mey added five aces. 
 
* For Bryn Athyn, Ciara Kiely finished with two kills, while Sabrina Brock recorded a match-high nine digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 14th meeting between Abington and Bryn Athyn since the start of the 2011 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 7-7 versus the Lions in the all-time series.  Abington has won the last three matches in the series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 10 as the Nittany Lions take part in a tri-match at Wilson College.  The team will face host Wilson at 11 a.m. and then take on King's College at 1 p.m.
