Abington Falls to Lancaster Bible in Overtime

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team suffered its first United East Conference (UEC) setback after falling to Lancaster Bible College, 80-73, in overtime on Wednesday night at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Lancaster Bible scored the first eight points in overtime to lead 73-65 with 2:35 remaining in the extra period.  A pair of free throws by senior Alex Salata III ended the drought for the Nittany Lions, however the Chargers responded with a three-pointer on their next possession to increase the lead to 76-67. The Chargers' lead swelled to as many as 12 points at 80-68 in the final minute. 
 
* Abington trailed 65-59 with 1:43 remaining in regulation.  Salata drained a three-pointer to bring the Nittany Lions to within three at the 1:23 mark.  Two possessions later, Salata drilled another three to tie the game at 65-65 with :34 seconds to go.  The Nittany Lions forced a turnover on the Chargers' ensuing possession to set up a final shot.  However, the team's shot fell short at the buzzer with the game tied at 65-65.
 
* Late in the first half, Abington trailed 27-22 at the 5:35 mark.  From there the Nittany Lions went on a 13-0 run to grab a 35-37 lead with less than a minute to play in the half.  Lancaster Bible managed a couple of free throws in the final :30 seconds to make it a 35-29 game heading into halftime.
 
* The momentum carried over into the second half as Abington swelled its lead to double-figures.  A layup basket by senior Brian Randolph III made the score 42-31 at the 17:14 mark of the half.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Salata, the United East Player of the Week, scored a season-high 26 points to record his fourth straight 20-plus game.  He shot 7-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.  He also converted 8-of-11 from the charity stripe. Salata dished out four assists.
 
* Randolph finished with 18 points (6-12 FG) as he knocked down 2-of-3 from deep range and all four of his free throw attempts.  He also totaled three rebounds and four assists.
 
* Senior Alex Podolski also finished in double-figures as he totaled 14 points to go along six rebounds and two steals.
 
* Sophomore Darrion Harris contributed 10 points and had a pair of steals on defense.
 
* Junior Jake Schalki led the team with 10 rebounds.
 
* For Lancaster Bible, Jordan Shewbridge finished with a team-high 25 points to go along with five assists. Andrew Zentner came off the bench and recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 16 boards.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 22nd meeting between Abington and Lancaster Bible since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 6-16 versus the Chargers in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington will look to bounce back on Saturday, Jan. 14 as the Nittany Lions host Wells College in United East action.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
