Abington Falls to Arcadia, 62-51

Arcadia, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Arcadia University by the score of 62-51 on Monday night at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Abington scored the game's first eight points and held Arcadia to 0-for-8 shooting from the field over the first five minutes of the opening quarter.  After back-to-back three-pointers by the Knights, the Nittany Lions went on another 8-0 run to increase its lead to double-digits at 16-6 with 2:23 left in the quarter.  Junior Angela Sanders capped the run with a three-pointer.
 
* The Nittany Lions went on to score the final five points of the first quarter with senior Cassie Tavormina draining a three-pointer before senior Isabella Vazquez converted a pair of free throws in the final seconds.  Abington led 21-8 entering the second frame.  
 
* Abington increased its lead to as many as 15 points when Vazquez opened the second quarter with a jumper to make the score 23-8. However, Arcadia went on a quick 7-0 run to cut the deficit down to eight at the 5:25 mark when Dayna Balasa drained a three.
 
* The Nittany Lions answered with a three-pointer, two possessions later to increase their lead back to double-digits.  Sanders knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to make the score 26-15 with 4:39 to play until halftime. The Knights followed with a 15-0 run to close out the quarter to lead 30-26 at the half.
 
* In the third quarter, Abington kept things close not allowing Arcadia to increase its lead to beyond two possessions.  The Knights maintained their lead and led 43-38 entering the fourth quarter.
 
* Arcadia connected on two three-pointers on its first two possessions of the fourth quarter to grab its first double-digit lead of the game at 49-39.  The Nittany Lions cut the lead in half by the 7:39 mark when sophomore Safara McIntyre converted a three-point play with a layup score and free throw to make the score 49-44. 
 
* The Knights followed with seven straight points to increase their lead back to double-figures at 56-44 with just over six minutes to play in regulation. Arcadia swelled its lead to as many as 15 points when Abby Beam hit a three-pointer to make the score 62-47 with 2:08 left on the clock.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Sanders recorded her eighth double-double of the season and the 19th of her career as she finished with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds.  She also had two blocks and three steals on defense.
 
* Vazquez finished the game with 12 points to go along with two steals.
 
* Tavormina totaled seven points and shared the team lead with 10 rebounds. 
 
* Junior Camille Fleming added nine points and five rebounds.
 
* For Arcadia, Balasa finished the night with 23 points; 20 of which came in the first half.  Beam added 14 points, while Scarlett Glasser-Nehls totaled 10 points and six boards.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Arcadia since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-4 versus the Knights in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action tomorrow night as the Nittany Lions resume United East Conference play against Gallaudet University.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. from the Athletic Building.
