Abington Defeats Gallaudet, 79-66

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team defeated visiting Gallaudet University, 79-66, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Tuesday night at the Abington Athletic Building.  The win halted the team's mini two-game losing streak as the Nittany Lions improved to 5-2 in conference play.

How It Happened
 
* A late first half run gave Abington a double-digit lead in the final minute.  After Gallaudet cut the deficit to 31-28 at the 2:20 mark, the Nittany Lions responded with seven straight points capped off by a three-pointer from senior Alex Salata III.  Salata's three made the score 38-28 before the Bison responded with a three from Rory Lewis in the final seconds.  Abington took a 38-31 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* Abington increased its lead back to double figures early in the second half and led by as many as 19 points.  The Nittany Lions opened with an 18-6 run that made the score 56-37 by the 12:45 mark when sophomore Dominick Borzacchiello capped the run with a jumper.
 
* The Nittany Lions maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way despite Gallaudet cutting the deficit down to 10 points with less than two minutes to play.  A three-point play by Preston Kelly made the score 73-63.  That would be as close as the Bison would get as Abington converted 4-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 90 seconds.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Jake Schalki recorded his first double-double of the season as he finished with 11 points tying his season high.  He also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. 
 
* Salata led all scorers with 17 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
 
* Sophomore Lexuus Fasce scored a season-high 15 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.  He also had three boards.
 
* Senior Brian Randolph III also scored in double-figures as he filled the box score with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
 
* Senior Alex Podolski finished with nine points and five rebounds, while sophomore Kolby Miller added seven points. 
 
* For Gallaudet, Lewis led the team with 16 points, while Jake Schwall totaled 14 points and five rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 22nd meeting between Abington and Gallaudet since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 11-11 versus the Bison in the all-time series.

Abington returns to action in one week when the Nittany Lions host Penn College in United East action.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
