Abington Cruises Past Wells, 94-36

Aurora, N.Y. – Junior Angela Sanders recorded her 20th career double-double and tied a school record for most rebounds in a game as the Penn State Abington women's basketball defeated Wells College, 94-36, in United East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Schwartz Athletic Center.  Sanders finished the game with 19 points and 24 rebounds.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 4-2 at the 7:43 mark of the first quarter and went on to outscore the Express, 16-5, the rest of the quarter to lead 18-9 heading into the second frame.  The Nittany Lions dominated the second quarter outscoring the Express, 28-9, on their way to a 46-18 halftime lead.  Abington held Wells scoreless the final 5:50 minutes of the second quarter.
 
* The Nittany Lions cruised through the second half outscoring the Express by a 48-18 margin, including a game-low eight points in the final quarter.

* Sanders notched her ninth double-double of the season and the 20th of her career with a 19-point/24-rebound performance.  She also finished with a career-high eight steals on defense.  Her 24 rebounds tied the school record which was established by former standout Grace Dewey who recorded 24 boards at Saint Elizabeth University back on Feb. 7, 2018.
 
* Senior Cassie Tavormina also recorded a double-double, her second of the season and third of her career, with 19 points and 10 rebounds. 
 
* Senior Isabella Vazquez led all scorers with 22 points to go along with nine rebounds and five assists. 
 
* Junior Elena Piel scored a season-high 13 points and added three rebounds and two assists.
 
* Freshman Despina Nittis tied her season-high with eight points. 
 
* Junior Camille Fleming finished the game with seven points and seven rebounds.
 
* For Wells, Ai Orita and Morgan Adams each led the team with nine points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 13th meeting between Abington and Wells since the start of the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 9-4 versus the Express in the all-time series.  Abington has won the last six matchups in the series and nine of the last 10.
 
More Records Fall
Abington controlled the boards versus the Express by a 79-40 margin.  As a result, the Nittany Lions established a new team school record for most rebounds in a game with 79.  The previous mark of 73 rebounds was set versus Wilson College during the 2015-16 season.

Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 31 as the Nittany Lions host Penn State Berks in a United East contest.  Game time is set for 5 p.m. from the Abington Athletic Building.
