Abington Edged by Elizabethtown, 5-4

Elizabethtown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team fell short on the road against Elizabethtown College by the score of 5-4 in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Courts.

How It Happened
 
* Abington jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the match after picking up a pair of victories in doubles play.  The team of Wenxu Gu and Tripp Mangifesta went the distance against the Blue Jays' Sam Langer and Isaac Reichenbach at second doubles.  Trailing 4-2, Gu and Mangifesta rallied to force a tie-break.  The duo was up 6-1 in the tiebreak before finishing the point at 7-5. 
 
* The Nittany Lions also won at third doubles as Nick Talarico and Lucca Frederico defeated Ryan Kraychik and Luke Paulson, 8-2.
 
* In singles action, Gu earned his first collegiate victory as he defeated Max Lauver, 6-4, 6-3, at the top position.
 
* Mangifesta improved to 2-0 on the season at fifth singles after defeating Paulson in straight sets by identical 6-2 scores.  Mangifesta was ahead 3-2 in both sets before winning the final three games of each set.
 
* Elizabethtown was victorious at second, third, fourth and sixth singles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Elizabethtown.  The series is now tied 1-1 with Abington winning the first-ever meeting last year.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday, Oct. 6 as the Nittany Lions host Baruch College in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.
