Abington Defeats Immaculata to Close Out Fall Schedule

Immaculata, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team finished the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule on a high note as the Nittany Lions defeated Immaculata University by the score of 6-3 in a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened
 
* The Nittany Lions took two of the three doubles competitions to open the match with a 2-1 lead.  At first doubles the duo of Wenxu Gu and Josh Kurek rallied from 6-3 down against Jason Watts and Troy Watts.  Gu and Kurek won the next five games to take the match, 8-6. 
 
* In third doubles, Tripp Mangifesta and Lucca Frederico cruised to an 8-1 victory against Nicholas Brown and Matthew Sabat, Jr.
 
* The Mighty Macs picked up the point at second doubles after Jeremy Brown and Nicholas Fleming edged out Tim Belotserkovsky and Neil Guarino with a one point victory at 8-7.
 
* Mangifesta recorded a shutout victory over Sabat at sixth singles winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
 
* Wenxu picked up the win at first singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against J. Watts. 
 
* Belotserkovsky went the distance against J. Brown at fourth singles.  After dropping the first set, 6-3, Belotserkovsky took the second set by the same score to force a third set tie-break.  He went on to cruise to a 10-3 victory to grab the point for the Nittany Lions.
 
* Talarico also went the distance in his fifth singles match against N. Brown. Talarico won the first set with ease by the score of 6-1.  However, Brown took the second set at 6-4 to force a tie-break.  Just like Belotserkovsky, Talarico won the tie-break by the score of 10-3 to secure the point at fifth singles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever match against Immaculata.
 
Next Up
Abington will resume play in the spring season beginning in March 2024.
