Abington Falls to Chargers in United East Action

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat by visiting Lancaster Bible College in United East Conference (UEC) action on Tuesday night at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Lancaster Bible registered 10 kills in the opening set while holding Abington to just two kills on the attack. The Chargers went on to take the set, 25-8, after jumping out to a 13-1 lead.
 
* In the second set the Chargers once again jumped out to an early lead and at 6-5 used a 7-1 run to increase their advantage to 13-6. The Nittany Lions were never able to overcome the deficit as the Lancaster Bible offense totaled a match-high 15 kills in the set.  The Chargers took the set, 25-18.
 
* Abington opened the third set with four straight points and went on to hold an 8-6 edge after freshman Kayla Mason and sophomore Alyssa Flickinger registered back-to-back kills.  Moments later with the set tied 9-9, the Chargers scored six unanswered points to take a 15-9 lead.  The Nittany Lions cut the deficit down to four points on two separate occasions down the stretch, but the Chargers went on to take the set when Chloe King connected on two straight kills to close the set at 25-19.  
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Flickinger and Mason each had four kills in the match for the Nittany Lions.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Schaefer finished with a match-high 16 digs.
 
* Sophomore Laine Kulpinski finished with 12 assists and three digs.
 
* For the Chargers, King and Morgan Fenstermacher each totaled 10 kills.  Madeline Reed paced the Chargers with 34 assists.
 
Unite For HER
Tonight's match featured the team's annual Pink Out game.  The Nittany Lions teamed up with Unite For HER to help raise funds to support those affected by breast and ovarian cancer.  Fans can help the Nittany Lions and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee reach their goal of $2,000 by clicking, here, to make an online donation.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Lancaster Bible since the start of the 2011 season.  The Chargers have won 11 of the 12 matches in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 as the Nittany Lions travel to face St. Mary's College (Md.) for a United East matchup.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.  Abington will then face Hollins University at 2 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
