Abington Dominates Berks, 9-0

Reading, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team had three players score multiple goals as the Nittany Lions defeated Penn State Berks in a one-sided affair, 9-0, in United East Conference (UEC) action on Wednesday evening at the Berks Turf Field.  With the nine goals, the Nittany Lions have tallied 23 goals in their last two games.

How It Happened
 
* The Nittany Lions held a 4-0 lead within the first five-plus minutes of the game thanks to a pair of goals by junior Arsene Bado and senior Roan Vadakan.  Bado scored the first two goals in the second and third minutes and was followed by two scores by Vadakan in the fifth and sixth minutes.
 
* Abbington made it a 5-0 game in the 25th minute when senior Mike Thomas tallied an unassisted goal.  The Nittany Lions added two more goals before the half was over with scores by freshmen Hugh Nungessor and Bryant Corona to lead 7-0 at halftime.
 
* The Nittany Lions tacked on two second half goals as Nungessor scored his second goal on the night in the 56th minute.  Freshman Collin Meo capped the scoring with a goal in the 81st minute.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Bado, the United East Volt Division Offensive Player of the Week, finished the game with six points on two goals and two assists.  He has now scored seven goals in the last three games, including two game-winning tallies.  With his six-point performance, Bado set a career-high in points with 25 and now has 50 career points; sixth most in program history.
 
* Vadakan also tallied six points setting a new career-high.  The two goals marked his first career multi-goal game.  In his last two games, Vadakan has scored three goals and recorded five assists.
 
* Thomas finished the night with one goal and one assist for three points.  His assist on Vadakin's second goal marked his 10th of the season and 18th of his career. He currently ranks second all-time with 18 assists; four shy of tying the program record.  Furthermore, with his three points, Thomas now has 52 in his career which ranks fifth in the program's record book.
 
* Nungessor recorded his second multi-goal game of the season and now has eight total goals on the year.
 
* Corona's goal in the closing minutes of the first half was his first career score.  Fellow freshman Josh Hernandez assisted on Corona's score marking his first collegiate point.
 
* All three goalkeepers saw action in the win with senior Matt Sheldon recording one save in the first half.  Senior John Simpson and sophomore Brendan Werner split time in the second half.  Werner finished with one save as the three combined on the shutout.
 
Postseason Picture
Abington has already clinched a spot in the upcoming United East Tournament.  The Nittany Lions are currently the lone unblemished team in conference play at 4-0-0 and could clinch the top-seed with a victory in one of its final two games.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 12th meeting between Abington and Berks since the start of the 2013 season.  Abington is now 9-2-1 versus Berks in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Harrisburg in a United East matchup.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
