Abington Claims Volt Division Regular Season Title

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer team inched closer to a conference title as the Nittany Lions claimed the United East Conference (UEC) Volt Division Regular Season title with a 2-0 victory over St. Mary's College (Md.) in the regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field.  The Nittany Lions wrapped up conference play with a 5-0-1 record and as a result earned the number seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

How It Happened
 
* Abington scored the game's first goal in the 25th minute when junior Eljo Agolli connected on his first of two scores on the afternoon.  Agolli took a shot from the left side and found the lower-right corner of the net for the score.
 
* The Nittany Lions doubled their lead in the opening minutes of the second half.  A foul by St. Mary's inside the box in the 51st minute led to a penalty kick taken by Agolli.  Agolli converted the kick beating the Seahawks' goalkeeper upper-left.  It marked his fifth career PK in as many attempts.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Abington outshot the Seahawks by a 12-5 margin and held a 4-3 edge on corner kick attempts in the game.
 
* Senior goalkeeper Matt Sheldon recorded his second straight shutout as he made four saves in the win.  It marked his fourth shutout of the season and ninth of his career.
 
* With his two goals Agolli now has 11 on the season setting a new career-high.  He also set a career-high with 27 points (11G/5A).
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the sixth meeting between Abington and St. Mary's since the start of the 2015 season.  Today's victory marked the first-ever by the Nittany Lions over the Seahawks.
 
Postseason Picture
Abington officially clinched the top seed in the Volt Division after finishing conference play 5-0-1.  The Nittany Lions will receive a bye in the first round which is set to begin on Saturday, Oct. 25.  Abington will host the lowest remaining seed in the Divisional Semifinals on Monday, Oct. 30 at Memorial Field.
