Abington Drops Home Opener to Visiting Delaware Valley

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team dropped its home opener to Delaware Valley University by the score of 79-59 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* The Aggies scored the game's first seven points to jump out to a 7-0 lead within the first two minutes of action.  However, the Nittany Lions followed with five unanswered points capped off with a three-pointer by freshman Amina Reid to make the score 7-5. 
 
* Later in the first quarter Abington grabbed its first lead when junior Kaya Mobley drilled a three-pointer to give the Nittany Lions an 11-9 advantage with 3:29 remaining in quarter.  The Aggies responded with a quick 6-0 run before closing out the quarter with a 15-12 lead.
 
* Delaware Valley maintained its lead through the second quarter and led by as many as nine points after a three-pointer by Haley Keenan, who scored a game-high 32 points, made the score 29-20 at the 4:18 mark.  The Nittany Lions cut the deficit down to four points (34-30) before halftime when Reid hit another three to cap the scoring in the half for both teams.
 
* The Aggies swelled their lead to double digits after starting the third quarter with a 9-0 run.  Keenan scored a layup basket to make the score 43-30 at the 7:45 mark.  Delaware Valley led by as many as 17 points after a jumper by Kendra Rigo increased the lead to 58-41 with a minute to play in the quarter.
 
* Delaware Valley maintained its double-digit lead through the fourth quarter and would go on to lead by as many as 24 points after Keenan converted a pair of free throws.  Her two free throws made the score 70-46 with 6:39 to play in regulation.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Senior Angela Sanders led the Nittany Lions as she finished with 19 points tying her season-high as she shot 8-of-19 from the field.  She also totaled nine rebounds to go along with three blocks and a steal on defense.
 
* Reid, along with freshman Amirah Hackney, each totaled 12 points.  Hackney added seven rebounds and two steals.
 
* Mobley filled the box score with eight points, a game-high 12 rebounds and six assists. She set season-highs in both rebounds and assists.
 
* For Delaware Valley, Keenan scored a game-high 32 points to go along with a team-high 11 rebounds to record a double-double.  Maisie Neuber finished with 17 points and five rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the sixth meeting between Abington and Delaware Valley since the start of the 2017 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 2-4 versus the Aggies in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 16 as the Nittany Lions host Rutgers University – Camden in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
