Abington Picks Up First Win with 80-57 Triumph Over Rutgers-Camden

Abington, Pa. – Penn State Abington senior Angela Sanders recorded her first double-double of the season as she totaled 27 points and 16 rebounds in the team's 80-57 victory over visiting Rutgers University-Camden in a non-conference contest on Thursday night at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* Abington trailed 22-21 in the opening moments of the second quarter but went on to use a 12-0 run to grab a double-digit lead.  Junior Kaya Mobley capped the run with a layup basket to give the Nittany Lions a 33-22 advantage with 4:53 to play until halftime.
 
* The Nittany Lions maintained the lead through the rest of the quarter and led 40-32 at the half.
 
* Abington came out firing to start the second half by scoring 11 of the first 12 points of the third quarter to increase its lead to 51-33.  Sanders scored five of the team's 11 points during the run. By quarters end the Nittany Lions led 62-43.
 
* In the fourth quarter the Nittany Lions swelled their lead to as many as 23 points after freshman Amina Reid scored a fastbreak basket to make the score 71-48 at the midway point of the quarter.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* Sanders recorded her first double-double of the season and her 25th of her career with a season-high 27 points and 16 rebounds.  She shot an impressive 12-of-18 from the field and also dished out five assists.
 
* Freshman Amirah Hackney scored in double-figures for the straight game as she finished with 14 points; one shy of her season-high.  She also recorded six rebounds and five assists to go along with a season-high five steals on defense.
 
* Reid totaled 12 points tying her season-high as she also recorded five rebounds and a game-high six assists.
 
* Mobley scored a season-high 11 points with five rebounds.
 
* Freshman Sereniti Minor came off the bench and scored a season-high 13 points.
 
* For Rutgers-Camden, Rahzirah Blocker led the way with 19 points, while Taja Brown finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fourth meeting between Abington and Rutgers-Camden since the start of the 2011 season.  Tonight's victory marked the Nittany Lions' first in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 18 as the Nittany Lions host the University of Valley Forge in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
