Abington Too Much for Patriots in One-Sided Victory

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team picked up its second straight victory after defeating the University of Valley Forge, 77-45, in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Athletic Building.

How It Happened
 
* After only scoring a combined 29 points in the first two quarters, the Nittany Lions came out of halftime firing as the team scored 24 points in each of the next two quarters.
 
* Abington, already ahead 29-20 entering the third quarter, opened with an 8-2 run to grab its biggest lead of the game to that point.  Freshman Sereniti Minor, who led the team with a game-high 21 points, scored a fastbreak basket to make the score 37-22 at the 7:11 mark.
 
* Later in the third quarter the Nittany Lions pushed their lead past the 20-point mark when freshman Kylie Frey drained a three-pointer to increase the lead to 49-28.  Abington went on to hold a 53-32 lead by quarters end.
 
* Valley Forge scored the first basket of the fourth quarter and then Abington followed with nine straight points to increase its lead to 62-34.  With 6:14 to play in regulation, Frey hit a jumper to close out the 9-0 run.
 
* Abington closed out the game on an 11-0 run over the final 2:40 of the game while at the same time held the Patriots scoreless during that span.  Minor scored the game's final basket in the final seconds to push her points total past the 20-mark for the first time in her career.
 
Inside the Numbers
 
* It was a breakout game for Minor as she totaled a season-high 21 points in her first career start.  She also totaled a season-high eight rebounds to go along with three steals on defense.
 
* Senior Angela Sanders recorded her second straight double-double and the 26th of her career with a 15-point/12-rebound performance.  Defensively, Sanders totaled three steals and a block. Sanders is currently on pace to reach 1,000 points in her career.  With her 15 points in today's game, Sanders now has 936 career points ranking her fifth all-time. 
 
* Freshman Amirah Hackney scored in double-figures for the fifth straight game as she totaled 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
 
* Frey reach double-figures for the first time this season as she recorded 15 points off the bench after connecting on three three-pointers.
 
* Junior Kaya Mobley recorded a game-high 13 rebounds and in the process set a new season-high.  Mobley also led the team with a season-high seven assists. 
 
* Freshman Amina Reid added nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
 
* For Valley Forge, Elizabeth Davis finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while Lucy Mauerman and Mariah Matthews each totaled nine points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Valley Forge and the first since the 2011-12 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 1-1 versus the Patriots in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 as the Nittany Lions host Clarks Summit University in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
