How It Happened

* Free throws played a significant importance down the stretch for the Nittany Lions.  With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, the Defenders' Andrew Pelkey drained a three-pointer to cut the Abington lead down to one point at 54-53.  However, the Nittany Lions forced eight trips to the free throw line in the final five minutes converting 12-of-16 attempts during that span.

* Abington never relinquished its lead in the final five minutes and scored 12 of its final 14 points of the game from the free throw line.  Junior Myles Haynes and redshirt sophomore Christian Niles each accounted for four made free throws during that span.  Haynes went 4-for-4, while Christian went 4-for-6.

* It was a back-and-forth game throughout with 11 different lead changes and 11 times the game was tied.  Abington trailed by as many as five points early in the second half when Latief Mustafaa gave the Defenders a 35-30 lead after scoring a fastbreak basket.

* Abington scored seven unanswered points to grab its first lead since holding a 25-24 edge at the 3:03 mark of the first half. Senior Jake Schalki gave the Nittany Lions a 37-35 lead after putting back an offensive rebound and then converting a free throw for a three-point play.

* The lead would switch hands multiple times until the 7:34 mark when a jumper by junior Kolby Miller broke a 49-49 tie.  The Nittany Lions would hold on to the lead the rest of the way despite the Defenders coming within one point (54-53) prior to the team's run of free throws.

Inside the Numbers

* Schalki recorded his first double-double of the season as he led the team with 18 points while shooting 6-of-11 from the field.  He also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds; one shy of his career-high.

* Niles finished the game with 13 points as he converted 9-of-12 from the free throw line.

* Haynes also scored in double-figures as he added 10 points and six rebounds.

* Miller added a season-high nine points.

* For Clarks Summit, Ashton West scored a game-high 27 points off the bench as he shot 10-of-18 from the field.  Hunter Plantz totaled seven points and led the team with nine rebounds.
