Abington Ties Program Points Record in Win Over York

Jamaica, N.Y. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team tied the program's Division III era record for most points scored in a game after defeating York College (N.Y.), 101-30, in a non-conference contest on Thursday evening at the York College Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Abington scored the game's first eight points spearheaded by a pair of three-pointers from freshman Amirah Hackney.  The Nittany Lions' defense held the Cardinals to just four points in the opening quarter and held the home team scoreless for the final 6:13 minutes of the frame. As a result, Abington held a 25-4 lead heading into the second quarter.
 
* The Nittany Lions once again held York to just four points and didn't allow the Cardinals to score until the 5:09 mark of the second quarter.  By then, Abington already had a 35-4 advantage and was in full control of the game.
 
Inside the Numbers

* The 101 points scored by the Nittany Lions tied the program's record for most points in a game in the NCAA Division III era.  Abington previously scored 101 points in a victory against Penn State Berks back on Feb. 14, 2017. 

* Hackney led all scorers with 17 points (6-11 FG | 4-8 3FG) to go along with eight rebounds.
 
* Freshman Kylie Frey shot 6-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc to total a season-high 16 points.
 
* Senior Angela Sanders, fresh off her 1,000 career-point milestone the previous night, recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a 14-points/14-rebound performance.  Sanders shot 7-of-11 from the field and had three steals on defense. She also dished out six assists
 
* Freshman Sereniti Minor also scored in double-figures as she totaled 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
 
* Junior Kaya Mobley set a season-high with a game-high eight assists to go along with nine points (4-6 FG). Mobley totaled a season-high five steals.
 
* Freshman Amina Reid tied her season-high with seven assists while also scoring nine points (4-9 FG) and grabbing four rebounds. Reid also had three steals on the defensive end.
 
* Freshman Layla Reid added eight points, three assists and two steals, while sophomore Sofia Granados scored a season-high six points (3-5 FG) to go along with five rebounds.
 
* For the Cardinals, Alicia Gumbs recorded 13 points and six rebounds, while Madison Plaza finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
  
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the first-ever meeting between Abington and York.

Abington returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 9 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Arcadia University in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
