Abington Falls to Gallaudet in United East Action

Washington, D.C. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team dropped a United East Conference (UEC) contest at Gallaudet University by the score of 62-48 on Saturday afternoon at the Gallaudet Field House.

How It Happened
 
* Abington led 21-20 at the half and opened the third quarter with an 8-2 run over the first three-plus minutes to grab its biggest lead of the game at 29-22.  A basket by senior Isabella Vazquez capped the Nittany Lions run.
 
* Over the course of the third quarter, Gallaudet began chipping away at the lead and eventually tied the game at 31-31 with 2:21 to play in the quarter.  After a stop on defense, the Bison regained the lead for the first time since the second quarter at 33-31.  Gallaudet went on to take a 38-33 lead heading into the final frame.  The Bison used a 16-4 surge over the final 6:34 of the quarter.
 
* The momentum carried over into the fourth quarter for the Bison as the home team built a double-digit advantage at the 7:06 mark.  A layup by Cassidy Perry made the score 48-38.  Gallaudet would go on to increase its lead to as many as 14 points with just over four minutes to play in regulation at 54-40.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Junior Angela Sanders recorded her 11th double-double of the season tying her career-high.  She finished the game with 21 points and 12 rebounds while registering four steals on defense.
 
* Junior Camille Fleming had a career day as she picked up her second double-double of the season with a 12-point/18-rebound performance.  Her 18 boards set a new career-high.  Fleming also had three blocks and four steals on defense.
 
* Sophomore Safara McIntyre filled the box score with five points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 
* For Gallaudet, Perry came away with 22 points and 16 rebounds to record a double-double.  Rajena Guettler finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 23rd meeting between Abington and Gallaudet since the start of the 2012 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 8-15 versus the Bison in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8 as the Nittany Lions host Penn State Harrisburg in United East action.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.  Prior to the game, Abington will recognize its Senior Class in part of Senior Night festivities at the Abington Athletic Building.
