Abington Drops Rubber Game of Three-Game Series to Penn College

Jenkintown, Pa. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped the rubber game of a three-game series to visiting Penn College by the score of 18-6 in United East Conference (UEC) play on Saturday afternoon at Alverthorpe Park.

How It Happened
 
* Already ahead 6-0 entering the top half of the sixth, Penn College put the game out of reach by scoring eight runs in the inning.  The Wildcats totaled six hits in the inning and took advantage of two fielding errors by the Nittany Lions. Six different players drove in runs during the inning.
 
* Abington spoiled the shutout in the bottom of the sixth when junior Eric Rollins drove in a pair of runs with a base hit to left field.  Senior Louis Rossner and junior Tim Petrucelli scored on the play as both walked earlier in the inning to reach base.
 
* In the top half of the seventh, Jake Wagner connected on a grand slam for the Wildcats to make the score 18-2.  It would be the final runs scored by the visitors in the game.
 
* Abington totaled another pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a two-run single by Rossner.  The Nittany Lions scored two more runs in the bottom of the ninth when senior Montana Milward doubled to left-center field to score both senior Zach Morales and junior Justin Fogel.  Both reached base via the walk earlier in the inning.

* Sophomore Eric Stradling went 3-for-5 in the game as he was the lone Abington player to register multiple hits in the game.
 
* Rossner went 1-for-2 with two RBI and three walks, while Milward finished 1-for-3 with a team-high three RBI. 
 
* For Penn College, Wagner finished 3-for-5 with two runs and seven RBI, while Nathan Gustkey went 3-for-4 with four runs and four RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 25th meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2015 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 16-9 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, March 22 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Montclair State University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
