Abington Falls to Nationally Ranked Montclair State

Montclair, N.J. – The Penn State Abington baseball team dropped a non-conference contest at nationally ranked No. 23 Montclair State University by the score of 25-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium.

How It Happened
 
* Montclair State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Jason Moore connected on a three-run homer to account for three of the four runs.
 
* Abington got two of the runs back in the top half of the second.  Junior Tim Petrucelli led the inning off with his team-leading fifth home run of the season.  Later in the inning sophomore Steve Corrado drove in senior Montana Milward with a base hit to make the score 4-2.
 
* Junior Eric Rollins brought the Nittany Lions to within one run of tying at the game when he led the fourth inning off with a home run to make it a 4-3 game.  It marked his first home run of the season.
 
* In the bottom of the fifth the Red Hawks scored five runs to increase their lead to 9-3.  Four different players drove in runs in the inning.
 
* Montclair State added three more runs in the fifth and tacked on four more in the sixth to put the game out of reach at 16-3. 
 
* Abington scored three times in the top half of the seventh with senior Zach Morales and Milward each driving in runs. 
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Petrucelli finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  His leadoff home run in the second marked the fifth of the season and 13th of his career.  Petrucelli is now tied for third all-time in the program's all-time home run list with junior Justin Fogel
 
* Corrado also had multiple hits as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  His two base knocks marked his first career hits in an Abington uniform. 
 
* For Montclair State, Sam Angelo went 3-for-5 with two three-run home runs in the game.  He finished with seven RBI and four runs scored. Moore went 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBI.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Abington and Montclair State.  The two teams previously met back in Florida in 2018.  The Nittany Lions are now 0-2 versus the Red Hawks in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday, March 24 as the Nittany Lions resume United East Conference play with a home series with Wells College.  The first game of the three-game series is set for 3 p.m. on Friday.
